Acumen Risk: turning field reports into risk signals
A year of work on a risk management platform whose users include teams at BP and OMV, building the models, the algorithms and the signals behind its risk assessment.
Acumen Risk is a platform for industrial site security. Staff on the ground file daily reports about the situation around their sites. On their own these reports are just a stream of observations. The platform turns them into something a manager can act on.
My work over a year was the analytical core: the models behind the assessment, the algorithms that process incoming reports, and the signals the system looks for and surfaces. The output is a picture of where risk is concentrating and which protective measures are worth strengthening, presented as graphs and indicators rather than as raw text.
The platform was built on Angular with a Neo4j graph database, which fits a domain where the relationships between events matter more than the events themselves. A rewrite towards React and MongoDB was under way when the project was paused.
